Mission Statement
The Watseka Park District Mission is to open the door for recreational
and social opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities in
Watseka and surrounding communities.
History
A referendum was passed in April 1999 for the formation of the park
district. The first meeting was held on May 12th, 1999; the first levy
was applied for in December, 1999 and received in June 2000. The office
was established in May 2000, along with the hiring of the first
executive director, Debbie Wessels. Ms. Wessels resigned in June 2002
and Sherry Johnson was hired in August, 2002 as the new executive
director.
Board of Commissioners
A five member Board of Commissioners governs the Watseka Park District.
The Board is elected to six year terms and meets on the 2nd and 4th
Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. At the present time the Board is as
follows: Todd Oster – President; Mary Bricker –
Vice-President; Don Miller – Treasurer; Amy Schroeder – Secretary, and
Debra Sue Masters Powell – Commissioner.
Programming
Youth Programs – Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, Summer Camp, and
Swim Team
Adult Programs – Computer Training, Flower Arranging and Tai Chi.
Family Programs – Safety Seminars, Halloween Carnival, Strongman
